Towbar types available

Fixed

A fixed towbar is recommended if towing regularly especially if you are carrying livestock or heavy plant/machinery. A fixed towbar is budget friendly, low maintenance & attached to the chassis of your vehicle. You can generally choose between a flange or swan neck type based on your make & model of vehicle.

A fixed flange is bolted to a fixed plate & is ideal for regular towing with heigh adjustment on the plate as required. This is the most versatile & popular option.

A fixed swan neck is just as it sounds a fixed towbar that is a curved shape but can have limitations with what you can tow as often mounted closer to the bumper & has no height adjustment. Capable of carrying all types of ball mounted cycle carriers.

Detachable

Detachable tow, generally swan neck design, bars are a good option if towing infrequently or to keep the aesthetics’ of your vehicle, however they do have some down sides to consider. They tend to be a more expensive option, if the bar is lost they are expensive to replace, they can wear over time especially if towing a lot. If not fitted correctly fitted after removal they can come out during towing if not locked in correctly.

Electrical setup

We always recommend matching your vehicle electrics to your trailer ie not using an adapter where possible

7 pin electrics

This is the push fitting type of trailer plug to energise lighting on your trailer. Most commonly used where there is no reverse light fitted to the trailer – if a reverse light is fitted to the trailer it should work/allow it to be energised. The downside to this type of plug/socket system that over time they wear & can fall out while towing.

8 pin electrics

This is the twist fitment which makes a tighter fit to your towing vehicle. 8 pin electrics allows the reverse light to be energised also allowing fitment of a reversing camera to a trailer as required.

13 pin electrics

This is generally fitted when towing caravans or trailers that have leisure/living areas. The additional pins allow energising of the electrical components in the leisure area. A 8 pin plug can be used in a 13 pin socket but a 13 pin plug will not be fully energised with a 8 pin socket ie no charging facility.

Towing vehicles

Please bare in mind some newer vehicles generally 2024 and newer & certain brands including Audit, Skoda, VW etc do not allow the trailer support system in the towing vehicle to be enabled without ECU/electrical components of the vehicle being sent back to the manufacturer for recoding. This does not mean that you cant have a towbar fitted nor does it mean that you have to have it fitted at the main dealer it just means that the dash board electrics may not work when indicators engaged etc.

Warranty/Guarantee

Our fitting agent offers a lifetime warranty – however this does require inspection to ensure there has been no misuse of the system that has caused defects or issue. We will always endeavour to work with you to resolve any issue you may experience but as our fitting agent has in excess of 30 years experience we feel an issue is unlikely.
